Dec - Jan - Feb Calendar

Michigan 11th Congressional District Democratic Party

General membership meeting postponed.  Members encouraged to attend holiday events of  local clubs and elected officials.

General membership meeting on Saturday, Jan 31, MEA Center in Commerce Township, 10:30 AM to Noon.  At this district convention we will elect 8 persons for committees of the Feb 14 state convention:  2 members & 2 alternates on the credentials committee, plus 2 members & 2 alternates on the rules committee.

Voters must have been Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) members at least 30 days prior to Jan 31 (prior to Jan 1).  Elected committee members must have been MDP members a least 30 days prior to the Feb 14 convention (prior to Jan 15).

Michigan Democratic Party State Convention, Saturday, Feb 14, at Cobo Center, Detroit.  There will be morning caucus meetings, district caucuses at 1 PM, & the convention will start at 3.

The 2-year term (2013 - 2015) of district elected leaders ceases on Feb 14.  Officers, officers-at-large, executive committee members, and state central committee delegates will no longer be in office.

At the 1 PM district caucus on Feb 14, in room 140G, we will elect (for a 2 year term) at least the following:  district chairperson, district vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer, & 15 members of the district executive committee.  Also we will elect 12 members & 12 alternates for the Democratic State Central Committee.

At the caucus, members may offer a slate of candidates for  (1) all offices listed above, (2) more offices than those listed above, with no change to state central numbers, (3) one or more offices listed above.

MDP rules require us to use proportional voting.

Eligible voters must have been  members of the Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) at least 30 days prior to Feb 14 (Jan 15).  Precinct delegates, Democratic elected officials, & most recent Democratic candidates for public office may join MDP when registering for the Feb 14 Convention.

We urge members to arrive at the 1 PM caucus early - to ensure registration is completed before the caucus starts.

At Lansing Center in downtown Lansing.
We will hear from Senator Debbie Stabenow, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Gary Peters, Democratic candidate for governor Mark Schauer, and other great Democratic leaders about how Democrats are fighting to create opportunity for everyone - not just those at the top. We will nominate Lisa Brown for Lieutenant Governor, and select our Democratic candidates for Attorney General, Secretary of State, Michigan Supreme Court, and our Education Boards. We will also adopt the Party’s 2014 Platform and Resolutions.
